Sarah's Story

Sarah, Age 18

Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm 18 years old.

I was an active 15 year old that was really into sports. At the beginning of my 9th grade year I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I was hit with two major diseases at the same time. I am one of the few patients that has Ulcerative Colitis and Auto-immune hepatitis (liver disease).

It was a life changing event for me and my family. I was lucky enough to get out of having a transplant but my entire life has changed. I could no longer play sports or dance and that had been my passion my entire life.

I was on prednisone for 2 years and it was hard starting high school. During my junior year I decided to run cross country and I have been running since. I am graduating on May 22 and will be attending college next year. I got some amazing scholarships to run cross country but I turned them down because I'm afraid of being on the other side of the country and getting a flare up.
